Capital City Murder - NWARG's Betties Take on Little Rock Derby Girls' BloodBath Beauties
March 1st, 2008.The Betties had a ton of fun playing with LRDG girls. Big thanks to those girls for hosting us! We started off strong at the beginning of the 1st period with several lead jammer takes as well as some grand slams. Big shout outs to our jammers; Blazen Glory, Blonde Ice, Joann of Arc, Magnum G.I., Bloody Bathory and Miss Tyra Spanks.
At the beginning of the second period, the score was pretty tight, at one point we were up by only 6 points. But coming out of halftime, the Betties proved we were not going to give up the fight. We regained our larger point spread, ending the game at 121 to 80 Backwoods Betties. Lots of great blocking action by Jesster Riot, Joanne of Arc, Rockin Robin, Wagon Burner, Sin, Magnum G.I. and Tyra Spanks. Every single one of our girls poured their hearts into this game.
We had a huge amount of support from our big sisters, the Arkansas Killbillies, who showed us some massive love. Thanks to Saba Taj, Dis Missle, Blackzilla, Apache Rose, Queen La Teachya, Mellow Yellow, Spark Plug and all the husbands and BF/GF's that came out to shout us on to victory.
A huge NWARG Pirate "ARGH!" to our Coach, Captain Jay Sparrow. He always believes in us and pushes us to be the best we can be. We love you Captain Jay!
Lots of love to the Little Rock Derby Girls. They not only know how to show a derby girl a good time, but they know how to put up a fierce fight as well. I know many of us are hurting today because of you! Special thanks to Madness, Tara Niploff and Schaedenfraude for organizing the bout. Also big hugs to Lustful Vengence for providing NWARG with a huge feast and an awesome after party.
Can't wait to do it again!
NWARG takes on CORDA and TARG! Feb. 24th!!
Last night was a blast for the NWARG girls! We had a ton of fun playing with the CORDA and TARG girls, thank you soo much girls for having us! We had a mixture of both Killbillies and Betties last night, some girls for whom this was only their second bout! Nevertheless they fit into the NWARG Pirate Skate like well oiled bearings! We are so proud of our newer players like Blazen Glory, Flyon Maiden, Joanne of Arc, Twilight Zone, Rockin Robin and Wagonburnher. Our very own Tyra Spanks rocked the rink last night to take Lead Jammer in the 3rd period and crushed her competition! Joanne also destroyed her competitor in an amazing jam, getting grandslam twice in a row! Good Job Girls!Let's not forget our veterans going to represent and take home the moola for the NWA! Saba Taj, Apache, Wop, Itty and Teachya jammed it out; while Dilliverance and Dimah handed off the pivot position all night long. Blackzilla beat the holy **** out of some broads with her hardcore style!
And a big Pirate "ARGH!" to our Coach, Captain Jay Sparrow, he loves and believes in us constantly and WE LOVE YOU JAY!
Shoutout to Ivanna Hurtem, Mz. Hell, 9Killometer, Anomelie and the other girls who gave us a run for a money! We love you girls and look forward to working with y'all in the future.
All in all the final score with NWARG- 145, CORDA/TARG- 41
NWARG vs. Dallas Derby Devils
Well the Killbillies had a fantastic time and learned a whole TON from our big sisters, the Dallas Derby Devils! We played a hard game and had alot of fun. But the DDD's triumphed over the Killbillies with a score of 104 to 29. Here are some bout recaps:From www.derbynewsnetwork.com:
WFTDA Bout recap: (19) Dallas 104, (u) Northwest Arkansas 29
Posted by Justice Feelgood Marshall on February 11th, 2008
GRAND PRAIRIE, TX Ñ The Dallas Derby Devils rode a combination of blazing jammer speed and thunderous defensive work to a convincing win over visiting Northwest Arkansas, 104-29.
The ladies from Arkansas managed to stay in the bout for the first half of the first period, but Dallas would eventually build an insurmountable lead, sticking resolutely to a jammer rotation of Anita Riot, Hot 4 Teacher and Keltic Kamikaze. The 40-minute bout kicked off with Anita Riot grabbing lead and speeding to a 8-3 win over NWA's Mellow Yellow. The following jam was a bit closer for NWA, as nimble jammer Hot 4 Teacher also got lead but would only manage to increase her team's lead by a point, with Apache Rose claiming 3 points to Teacher's 4. On jam 3, though, Dallas' Keltic Kamikaze went 8-0 over Itty Bitty Bang in a full-length jam, and the score stood at Dallas 20, Northwest Arkansas 6.
While NWA would keep the margin on the verge of manageable for the next few jams, it was jam 7 that proved to be the backbreaker - Anita Riot demonstrated her impressive speed in pulling a 10-0 double-grand-slam on Danger Darling, putting the game at Dallas 38, Northwest Arkansas 10. NWA's best weapon at the jammer line, Mellow Yellow, would get a 4-0 over Hot 4 Teacher on the following jam, but that would prove to be NWA's only jam win of the half. After Dallas closed out the period on two solid wins Ñ a 9-0 for Keltic Kamikaze over Apache Rose and a 4-1 for Anita Riot over Itty Bitty Bang Ñ the home team was sitting on a 51-15 lead.
The Arkansas girls would get another 4-0 from Mellow Yellow to kick off the second half, once again over Hot 4 Teacher Ðbut unfortunately for them, that again was their only jam win of the half. Anita Riot would go to the penalty box on the following jam while jamming for Dallas, but the frame would end 0-0 as Apache Rose had no luck getting through the tough Dallas defense. The score was Dallas 51, Northwest Arkansas 19 at that point, but Dallas poured it on for the rest of the period, greatly assisted by two double-digit shutout jams for Hot 4 Teacher Ñ a 10-0 over Apache Rose in the fourth jam of the period and an 11-0 over Itty Bitty Bang on the 7th.
As the eventual outcome became obvious, Dallas began to switch up their jammer rotation a bit, putting out G-Town Butcher and Ali Gorey in for their single jams of the night. Butcher would race to a 4-4 tie with Mellow Yellow, and Ali pulled out a 3-0 win over Danger Darling. With about 4 minutes left on the clock and the score 97-23 in favor of Dallas, the Devils made a crowd-pleasing decision by sending punishing blocker Mercy to the jam line for a rare turn wearing the star. She proceeded to demonstrate some impressive speed, managing to get a narrow 3-2 decision over Apache Rose. Mercy would start the next jam in the penalty box, leaving Mellow Yellow all alone on the jam line for the bout's last jam, but the Dallas defense held Mellow to only one scoring pass, allowing Mercy to pull out a 4-4 upon returning to play. The final score was a lopsided victory for Dallas, 104-29.
Anita Riot was by far the most effective jammer on the night, running up 45 points on 7 jams, taking lead jammer status on 6 of those 7 jams, and getting a tremendous jammer point differential of +40. No Dallas jammer had a negative point differential. For the visitors, Mellow Yellow did the best from the jammer line, picking up 22 of NWA's 29 points. Apache Rose added 5 more, while Danger Darling and Itty Bitty Bang contributed one each.
The bout was the main event of a doubleheader that also saw the newest Dallas home team, the Death Row Rumblers, roll to a win over NWA's B-team, the Backwoods Betties, by nearly the same margin Ñ 111 to 29. Strawberry Deathcake and Postal Penny led a Rumblers jammer attack that jumped out to an over 20-point lead before NWA was able to get on the board. Stay tuned for an upcoming Moosecast from crack DNN reporter Moose Ondaluce, featuring a number of interviews with skaters from all four teams of the doubleheader!
Next up for Dallas is an away battle with unranked Pikes Peak on April 19th. NWA's all-star team next faces Green Country in Tulsa on March 9, while the Backwood Betties B-team tries for a win a week earlier on March 1st against the Little Rock Derby Girls.
AND Phil's Re-cap:
There's No Place Like Home Whether it was comfort with Forum Rollerworld and supportive hometown fans, or perhaps it was having a full squad of interleague skaters available to skate, the Dallas Derby Devils may have played their best interleague game ever as they defeated the Northwest Arkansas Killbillies Saturday night 104-29.
Anita Riot started off the first jam and the skater voted 2007 Best league jammer would score eight points. The DDD team would never be caught the rest of the night by a hard working NWA squad. Anita would again be featured in the tenth jam of the first half as she worked hard getting a first grand slam, but the second grand slam would not be so easy. While getting knocked down in the pack she would get up a couple of different times, and eventually complete her second grand slam for ten points in that jam. But the big difference in that jam was the blocking for Dallas that would keep the NWA jammer tied up for the entire jam while Anita Riot was picking up the first of three ten-point jams for the Derby Devils.
The key in this case was pivot Scary Cherry Bang Bang and "Blocker 1" Mercy. They teamed up to not only control the front of the pack, but to punish any blocker that tried to break that team up, or knock down any jammer that came to the front of the pack. And when Scary Cherry was put into the penalty box late in the jam, Mercy moved up and become the defacto pivot. Mercy was voted the Most Feared Blocker in 2007 for Dallas, and she proved why in this bout. She stayed out for the next jam, took up her roll as acting pivot, and shut down the NWA offense until Scary Cherry could make it out of the box. Dallas would take a 51-15 lead into the half.
For Dallas, Hot For Teacher would be the scoring machine in the second half. She would score two ten-point jams for the final period, and the Dallas Derby Devils would outscore NWA 53-14. But the key for Dallas had to be the team blocking. Besides Mercy and Scary Cherry Bang Bang, other top blockers included Kick Face Trace, The Shocker, and Heike De Skirt, although the entire team had an excellent blocking game.
Top scorers for DDD included Anita Riot with 45 points, and Hot For Teacher with 28 points. The top scorer for Northwest Arkansas was Mellow Yellow who had 22 points. Apache Rose added five points for NWA. The top blockers for the team from Fayetteville, Arkansas included Dimah Darling, Saba Taj, and Pork Pie.
In the first game of the night, the Death Row Rumblers picked up their second victory ever as they defeated the Backwood Betties of Northwest Arkansas, 111-29. It was the first time the Rumblers had ever broken the century mark, a real accomplishment for a team that scored only 25 points in a bout back in November.
Desi Deck ..Em led the Rumblers out of the gate scoring six points as the team in orange shut down the Backwood Betties. In the second jam of the game, the rookie jammer Postal Penny would score 15 points in her first ever action as a jammer, while the Rumblers defense would shut out the Betties offense for the second jam in a row. That gave the Death Row squad a 21-0 lead early, and they would never be caught. In the sixth jam of the first half, speed skater Strawberry Deathcake would post a "double grand-slam" adding ten points to the scoreboard while her teammates were shutting out the squad from Arkansas. The Death Row Rumblers would take a 59-11 lead at half time.
Perhaps the highlight jam of the night was when the Rumblers lost their jammer who was sent off the track to the penalty box. Deathcake would step up to the challenge from her pivot position and knock the Backwood Bettie jammer down on three separate occasions, and the Rumblers would kill the jammer penalty without allowing a score. In fact, Strawberry Deathcake would pick up six unofficial jammer takeouts in the second half as she pivoted much of the game. The Death Row Rumblers would outscore a hustling Backwood Bettie team 52-18 in the second half.
The key to the game was the team blocking for the Rumblers. Professor Chaos and Annie Wrecksion skated their usual powerful, knock-..em-down game, while skaters like Holy Tara, Roll Over, and Britney Fierce did a great job of tying up opposing blockers and helping to get their jammers through the pack with solid team blocking. The leading scorer for the Death Row Rumblers was Postal Penny with 38 points, Desi Deck'em with 26 points, Strawberry Deathcake with 22 points and Marilyn Monroll with 13 points.
Top scorers for The Backwood Betties included Blonde Ice with 12 points, Magnum G.I. with 9 points and Blazen Glory with 7 points. Top blockers included Jesster Riot, Sin, and JoAnn of Arc.
The next bout for the Dallas Derby Devils is tentatively scheduled for March 22 in Grand Prairie although details are not yet final.
